Unless, of course, you are ready to part with your money and get nothing.
**
I wasn’t ready to part with my money, but that’s exactly what happened: I am in a hole with $110 (delivery fee) and with no furniture in my house.
All due to illiterate drivers from Urban Express, Ikea’s contractor for delivering furniture to your house: they just can’t read an address.
**
Two years ago Urban Express delivered our IKEA mattress way off the grid. Fortunately, we were able to pick up the phone and direct them to our building in midtown Toronto.
A few days ago they did the same thing with another product we ordered online. Unfortunately, my wife’s phone was off while she was in a business meeting (oh, they don’t deliver after hours, didn’t you know?) while I was waiting in vain at the apartment.
They left 2 messages (“we are knocking at the door and no one is answering!” – what door, we live in a condo; but they were off the map again) and left.
They won’t be back unless we pay another $70 plus tax.
Let’s add:
110 initial fee +
70 second fee
===
$180 delivery fees for a $350 product. More than 50% of the product itself.
You can get a mover for $40 to move your product from the store to your place.
**
I tried offering $20 for the second delivery, on account with the fact that we did not answer the phone.
Honestly I would’ve expected a free delivery since they went to the wrong address in the first place.
Not accepted. $70 or you cancel the order and you lose the initial $110 fee.
We canceled.
**
BOTTOM LINE
We lost $110 to an Urban Express driver that drove our furniture god knows where.
We lost about $200 taking time off from the office to wait the delivery.
Got no furniture delivered.
Got a bitter taste after the experience.
**
IKEA won nothing cause they didn’t sell the product. IKEA lost us as customers when we dealt with their customer service.
Urban Express – IKEA’s delivery service -…well, their customer service is “rough-tough American style” (the firm is in the States, and so is their call centre), so stay away from those anthropoids.
** **
Lesson learned, lesson shared: if you buy IKEA, buy from the store and get a mover if you don’t have a friend with a pickup truck. Anything, but don’t use their delivery service.
And if you hear Urban Express, run the opposite direction.

A company that operates as a furniture delivery business should handle your furniture shipment and furniture delivery on time and on budget.
